“I'm heading down for the beach Mum-to see Nadine and Adele!” Jade called
“OK! Be back before dark yeah?” Jade grabbed her bag and headed out of the door. The cool, summer breeze swept across her face.
“Summer, welcome back” She sighed, running down the stony path in her flip-flops. Nadine and Adele were sitting on the beach in their cropped tops, shorts, sunglasses and flip-flops.
“Hi Nadine! Hi Adele!” Jade beamed
“Oh Jade! We almost thought you weren't coming!” Nadine shook her head and briskly took her sunglasses off.
“Sorry Nadine! I was at the cliffs and I'd only just come back” They sat on their beach towels,
“I can't believe our third year at High School has gone already” Adele giggled,
“Come on girls we're going for a swim..” Nadine gave a smirk type of smile. The girls had a big secret, the water carried H20 in it and the girls had blood full of H20 so they turned into mermaids in the sunset zone. If any H20 blood was taken from them, they would no longer be part mermaid and H20 was believed to be around in some people but how very rare blood it was! They had all seen H20 blood on the internet and nobody was meant to have it. They took off their cropped tops, shorts, sunglasses and underneath they had their swimsuits. They dived in, past the daylight zone and gradually, their legs disappeared and turned into scaly gold tails.
“To the H20 HQ!” Jade yelled above the splashing water. Nadine and Adele screwed up in a ball and kicked out their tails. They came to the midnight zone and Nadine pointed to a cave,
“THE HQ!” They swam there and got out. They sat on the rocks, Jade was the last one.
“OW!” She squealed “I've banged my leg on the diamonds on the rocks!” Nadine helped Jade sit on the damp sand
“Ouch, looks like arthritis!”
“I can't swim back now! We're in the Midnight Zone too!” Jade sighed “Help! It hurts, Nadine...help!” Adele looked worried.
“If we get help, people will be fishy about us breathing in water this long...they're bound to think we have H20 blood”
“Yes...OK Jade. Be brave and we're going to get you out of here, me and Adele will hold your hands and we will swim to the surface” Nadine told her. Jade blinked back tears and nodded. So she slid in the water, her leg stinging. The two grabbed her hands and swam as fast as their tails would let them. They reached the Daylight zone and slowly their legs appeared again. Still managing to breathe, they came to dry land. Jade beckoned for Nadine to get her mobile,
“Hello, Mum? Can you collect me from the beach? I bashed my leg and Adele says it looks like arthritis-I know it was silly-yes please-thank you! Bye” Her mum drove to the beach,
“Nadine, Adele? Can you hold her leg up? I'll hold her body up” So Jade got into the car. Nadine and Adele was coming back with her.

“I can't believe you can't come to the beach tomorrow!” Nadine sighed
“Sorry; I was so clumsy” Jade whispered. Nadine put her hand on Jade's shoulder.
“At least you didn't cut yourself” Adele soothed.
“Yes” Jade sobbed “I simply don't know what to say” She looked out the window, peering at the sign

“I'm calling my big brother Jackson” Jade sighed “Oh! Hi Jack......yeah......bashed my leg.......hmm......yes! Oh great.........so promise you're home early?”
“Promise” Jackson said.







“Oh goody! The ice-cream truck is here....JD? You want anything?” Nadine asked Jade
“Ooh....just a double Flake 99” Jade smiled, brightening up at the sight of the huge sign on the Ice cream truck

DREAMIES ICIES

Jade gave Nadine a two pound note,
“Is that enough?”
“Yeah, be back in a tick!” So Nadine and Adele rushed outside to the Ice Cream truck. They came back with a Twister lolly, a Double Flake 99 and a Refresher Lolly. Jade's mother came in,
“The doctor is going to check you now....you may come too Adele and Nadine” So they climbed into the car again and drove to the Doctors Surgery. The Reception led them to their room, they sat in some blue, leather chairs and a Doctor marched in. He looked like a pot bellied dwarf
“Hallo Jade! So you think you've got arthritis in your leg?” Jade nodded
“Yes...I hope I haven't”

The doctor examined it
“OK...we're going to have to get a thorough look at this, here. Are you available on the 28th? That's two weeks away”
“Yes...why?” Jade asked
“You're having a blood test”
